"Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord." — Psalm 27:14
Waiting patiently is often one of the hardest things to do, yet it is a habit we must learn to incorporate into our daily walk with God. Our Heavenly Father, the Creator of heaven and earth, works according to His own timetable and purpose. As mortals, we must learn to wait patiently for His perfect timing, for He is always an on-time God.
"Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord." — Psalm 27:14
The Bible contains many examples of people who had to wait patiently for God. Some waited faithfully, while others took matters into their own hands and later learned the importance of trusting God's timing.
Abraham and Sarah waited many years for God's promise of a son. Although they struggled with impatience and attempted to fulfil God's promise through their own efforts, they eventually learned to trust in God's faithfulness. In His perfect timing, Isaac was born just as God had promised (Genesis 12:1-4; Genesis 15:4-6; Genesis 21:1-3; Romans 4:20-21).
Joseph received dreams as a young man concerning his future, yet he endured betrayal, slavery, false accusations, and imprisonment before those dreams were fulfilled. Through years of waiting and suffering, God was preparing him for the purpose He had ordained (Genesis 37:5-11; Genesis 39:20-23; Genesis 41:39-43; Genesis 50:20).
Moses spent forty years in the land of Midian after fleeing Egypt. Earlier, he had attempted to deliver his people in his own strength, but God's plan required preparation and waiting. After forty years in the wilderness, God called him to lead Israel out of Egypt according to His divine timing (Exodus 2:11-15; Exodus 3:1-10; Acts 7:23-30).
Even our Lord Jesus Christ waited approximately thirty years before beginning His public ministry. He grew in wisdom, stature, and favour with God and man, demonstrating patience and submission to the Father's timing (Luke 2:52; Luke 3:21-23; John 2:4).
These examples remind us that God's delays are not God's denials. While we wait, God is often preparing us, strengthening our faith, building our character, and aligning circumstances according to His perfect will.
"For the vision is yet for an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay." — Habakkuk 2:3
Therefore, let us trust God's timing, knowing that He makes everything beautiful in its time (Ecclesiastes 3:11). Those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall soar on wings like eagles, run and not grow weary, walk and not faint (Isaiah 40:31).
