Jesus Christ told the parable of the owner of the house who prepared a banquet and invited his friends and relatives, but each gave excuses why they could not honor the invitation. The owner became angry and told his servants to invite the poor, the blind, and the lame; and when there was still room, he told them to go into the countryside and invite others so that his house would be full. However, those who were first invited would not taste of the banquet (Luke 14:16–24).
God’s invitation is to all human beings, to accept His gift of salvation through His Son, who died for the sins of the world so that we might have eternal life (John 3:16). It is urgent that we accept His invitation and not give excuses of being too busy with the cares of this life and earthly concerns, neglecting the salvation of our souls. For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world, yet loses his soul? (Mark 8:36).
A man may have all the riches in the world yet truly has nothing, while another may be poor in earthly riches but still enriches many and makes many rich (2 Corinthians 6:10).
Let us accept Christ’s invitation today, for He says: “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light” (Matthew 11:28–30).
We should believe in Him, take up our cross daily, and follow Him (Luke 9:23), learning from Him and walking in His way.
