“Whoever believes in me shall not walk in darkness but have the light of life” (John 8:12).

There is so much darkness, confusion, misunderstanding, hatred, war, greed, corruption, and increasing distress all around due to man’s sinful nature. But we thank God that as believers in Christ, we have been given the Spirit of truth to discern between the truth and the lies and delusions of the evil one, who has blinded the minds of the ungodly and wicked so that they walk in darkness and not in the light of Christ (2 Corinthians 4:4).

As children of God, we have been given overwhelming victory over all these things as we walk in the light of Christ our Lord and the light of His grace, for we walk in the light as He is light (1 John 1:7). As believers, we are children of light, sons of light, as our Lord has spoken: “While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light” (John 12:36).

“Blessed are all who understand, for they shall shine like the stars in the sky, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever” (Daniel 12:3). Jesus our Lord and Savior also said, “Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they think they have will be taken from them” (Luke 8:18).

As children of light, we are called to be salt and light in this sinful world (Matthew 5:13–16). The world has chosen the way of foolishness rather than the way of God’s wisdom from above, which is first pure, then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere (James 3:17).

The wisdom of this world is foolishness because the world does not understand the wisdom of God but counts it as foolishness. “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God” (1 Corinthians 1:18).

As children of God, children of light, God’s chosen children freed from the devil’s pawnshop into the kingdom of the light of His Son for the praise of God’s glory (Colossians 1:13), let us stand firm on the word of God, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who has redeemed us to Himself as the Lord, the God of truth.

For all who stand on the rock of Christ stand on firm ground, so that when the storms of life rage, we still stand. But the world stands on shifting sand, and as the storms of life increasingly rage and distress increase, the ungodly and the wicked who refuse to repent and make God their only refuge, and make peace in their hearts with Him, are swept away by the rain and torrents, for they built not on Christ our Lord, who is the everlasting Rock (Matthew 7:24–27; Isaiah 26:4).

We stand firmly on Him until the day of His glorious appearing in the full glory of the Father of heavenly lights, in whom there is no darkness (James 1:17). He is the light that shines brighter than a trillion stars, for He is the Light in whom we see and understand (Psalm 36:9; Revelation 21:23).
